The David Geffen School of Medicine at UCLA (DGSOM) is comprised of 24 academic departments, 5 organized research units, and 5 interdisciplinary research centers and is the academic home to approximately 3,400 faculty and 2,900 trainees, students, and fellows. The DGSOM employs about 8,400 staff and non-faculty academics. The DGSOM s annual revenue totals approximately $2.8B, its expendable net assets approximately $1.3B and its endowments and quasi endowments approximately $1.9B.



The David Geffen School of Medicine at UCLA (DGSOM) seeks to hire a Financial Planning & Analysis (FP&A) Finance Analyst. Under general supervision of the Associate Director, Financial Planning & Analysis, the FP&A Finance Analyst position will be a key member of the FP&A team within the Financial Affairs Unit of the Dean s Office. This position will support DGSOM s financial planning and analysis function by developing necessary financial analyses to support management and strategic decision-making



This position will primarily focus on analyses from an institution-wide perspective and play an essential role in most aspects of DGSOM s financial planning such as developing annual budget materials for the Chancellor and managing the rolling forecasting and long-range financial planning processes. S/he will support the monthly reporting publication that summarizes DGSOM s financial performance and key performance indicators. S/he will also perform sophisticated financial and managerial analysis in the following areas: institutional resource planning (i.e. Capital budgeting and space utilization), funds flow modeling and feasibility studies, faculty productivity and operational benchmarking, space allocation, and emerging strategic issues.



The ideal candidate will have strong analytical ability, financial acumen, technical skills and experience in preparing financial reports and analyzing financial performance. This position will require the ability to balance priorities, often shifting priorities, in a challenging and complex environment. S/he will be reliable team player, have a sense of initiative and eagerness to learn and have strong communication skills. Lastly, s/he should align with the values of the Cultural North Star and have strong commitment to DGSOM s multiple missions.



TYPE OF SUPERVISION RECEIVED























The FP&A Finance Analyst will receive day-to-day direction / supervision and priorities from the Finance Business Partner.



DUTIES AND TASKS





Support Finance Business Partner with the DGSOM departmental business partners in creating budgets, forecasts, variance and trend analysis and multi-year financial plans.

Support the DGSOM departmental finance partners to grow their data and analytics capacities. Be an ambassador for improved cross-functional collaboration and communication.

Develop tools to assist business leaders to manage and track performance to goals

Analyze current and past trends in key performance indicators including all areas of revenue, expenses, equity transfers and capital expenditures.

Develop financial models and analyses to support strategic initiatives and academic departments financial performance

Perform complex ad-hoc reporting and analysis and provide accurate and timely financial recommendations to management for decision making purposes

Serve as a functional subject matter expert on working with Business Intelligence Tools

Support the finance and accounting team in accomplishing all month-end, quarter-end, and year-end analytics and reporting obligations

Prepare presentations to the Deans, the Chairs and other leadership

Support ad hoc projects and financial analyses by FP&A team





SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE AND ABILITIES





Bachelor s degree, or equivalent in relevant field (specialization in accounting, finance, economics, or business administration preferred)

Minimum of 2-3 years of FP&A and/or accounting experience (CPA preferred)

Strong knowledge of financial and accounting concepts, including basic framework of the P&L, Balance Sheet and Cash Flow.

Exceptional assessment, analytical, organizational, math and problem-solving skills accompanied by desire to understand underlying issues / drivers

Creative problem solver with the ability to synthesize complex and diverse information from disparate sources and deliver comprehensive, balanced, and actionable insights, leveraging intuition and experience to complement findings in data

Experience with development of budgets, forecasts, variance and trend analysis, and multi-year financial plans utilizing a wide variety of tools and financial analysis programs to build financial projection models

Demonstrated commitment to quality and accuracy; looks for ways to improve and promote quality; applies feedback to improve performance; monitors own work to ensure quality

Excellent customer service interpersonal skills and ability to develop and maintain excellent working relationships with stakeholders at all levels of the organization

Ability to communicate effectively, collaboratively, and professionally

Advanced knowledge of Excel, PowerPoint, and Business intelligence tools

High level of ethics, integrity, discretion and confidentiality; Supports the Cultural North Star principles through demonstrated behaviors and interactions.
