Job DescriptionApply theory and principles of environmental engineering to modify, test, and operate equipment and devices used in the prevention, control, and remediation of environmental problems, including waste treatment and site remediation, under the direction of engineering staff or scientist. Bright Power is seeking a Field Technician to join the California Project Development & Project Management teams who will assist the team's Project Managers and Engineers with managing day-to-day project work, both in the office and on construction sites, with a focus on hands-on field inspections and testing activities.The ideal candidate will have interest to be involved in all steps of project development and construction and will be open to assisting with numerous tasks related to successfully managing construction projects from start to finish.This position involves a combination of working from home, from the road, and at occupied apartment complexes. The hours on-site are generally 9AM-5PM Pacific Time though occasionally there may be a need to flex an 8 hour day to start 1-2 hours earlier or later. The top three skills needed to succeed in this position are:(1) impeccable communication with real estate property staff, construction, and engineering professionals;(2) able to work independently, follow a plan of action, and ask for help when needed; and(3) be detail-oriented in the completion of documentation thoroughly and accurately.

The Role

  • Completing site inspections and field testing solo and with team members.
  • Collecting data in the field: creating and following a plan of action about what parts of a property to visit; taking clear, detailed photos on construction sites, filling out data sheets; being attentive to detail with quantities, locations and model numbers
  • Compiling photos/field data into tracking sheets and reports.
  • Reviewing submittals for compliance with utility programmatic requirements.
  • Other tasks as assignedQualificationsEducation:
    • High School Diploma or GED, plus:
    • Degree, or pursuing degree, in Architecture, Engineering, Construction, or other relevant academic programs, OR
    • Completed or pursuing vocational training program related to building energy systems, property maintenance, or related field
    • 6 months or more experience with mechanical equipment, lighting, HVAC or related building systems.
    • Able to conduct inspections without supervision.
    • Excellent organizational and time management skills.
    • Strong work ethic and able to work independently.
    • Critical thinking and problem-solving abilities.
    • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
    • Willing to travel to sites throughout California
    • Able to be on sites as early as 7am if required.
    • Comfortable with the physical demands and safety precautions of being on construction sites.
    • Skilled at taking photos and detailed notes.
    • Resourceful & creative in finding a way to get the job donePreferred Skills Qualifications
      • Interest in learning about buildings, construction, and how it relates to energy and environmental issues.
      • HVAC, Electrical, Lighting, Plumbing, Carpentry, or any trade experience preferred.
      • OSHA 10 Certification preferred.
      • Access to a vehicle for day trips to properties which will generally be 30 mins to 2 hours drive away, but occasionally further.Work EnvironmentJob sites have inherent hazards, based on the activities performed at the site. While most sites are occupied apartment complexes, occasionally protective equipment (such as: work-boots, safety glasses, hardhats, hearing protection, etc.,) may be required to be worn at times while on a job site, due to construction and safety hazards that may be present. The noise level may warrant hearing protection. While most time is spent in conditioned spaces or in the lovely outdoors surrounding apartment complexes, visits to Job Sites may result in exposures to various hazards (such as: to extreme heat (100+F in boiler rooms), carbon monoxide, asbestos, lead paint, moldy dusty attics/crawlspaces, fiberglass insulation, hot pipes and/or hot metal, or high noise levels, etc.). Employees must be capable of using protective equipment and following specific safety procedures, as needed.Physical DemandsThe employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 40 pounds. Specific vision and hearing abilities may be required by this job, which include close vision and ability to adjust focus based on the task and surrounding activity. The employee is occasionally required to stand; walk and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The ability for the use of tools (such as: powered hand tools and other types of tools, including but not limited to combustion appliances, machinery and motors that have moving parts, belts, pulleys, elevators, motors, pumps and/or fans) may be required. Equipment for working at height (such as: ladders, mechanical lifts, etc.,) may be required to be used.
