We are seeking a highly motivated individual to join our Global Strategic Sourcing & Procurement (GSSP) team as the Associate Director of External Manufacturing Category and Advance Strategic Sourcing, acting as the "Category Lead" supporting two distinct areas. The first area is owning the sourcing of "External Manufacturing" through CMOs and CDMOs that includes vector manufacturing, plasmids, and starting materials. The second area will be leading "Advance Sourcing" which will work upstream with R&D, Process Development, Operations Teams and other technical teams to source materials and services for new Kite Programs.

The Associate Director will deploy category management processes to bring forward effective external solutions to meet the business requirements of their diverse stakeholders. In particular, the Associate Director will be developing and executing category and sourcing strategies and deployment of the Kite supplier management model for their areas. This opportunity, internally known as the Associate Director of Supply Chain, will require strong contracting experience, preferably in the Cell and Gene area, where suppliers are challenged to innovative or demonstrate continuous improvements.

While our preference is for this position to be based out of our Santa Monica, CA Headquarters or our Frederick, MD state-of-the-art Commercial Manufacturing Facility, this opportunity can be a remotely based position in the contiguous United States for the right candidate.

Responsibilities of the Associate Director of External Manufacturing Category and Advance Strategic Sourcing includes:

  • Develops and executes multi-year (3-5 year) category strategies to meet Kite business requirements
  • Partners with R&D, Process Development, Operations Teams, and other technical teams to scout, select, and source upstream new materials and services
  • Conducts due diligence activities to assess and mitigate risks for new materials and services used in development and will later be commercialized
  • Drives supplier enabled innovation to support the sourcing of new Kite platforms in autologous and allogenic cell therapy
  • Serves as an active member of Operations Teams and collaborate with other Category Leads to support various Kite programs
  • Partners with the cross-functional teams including External Supply and Partnership (ESP), Quality, MSAT, etc. to support specific External Manufacturers (CMOs/CDMOs)
  • Owns contracting and other strategic sourcing aspects of Kite's CMOs and CDMOs including vector manufacturing, plasmids, and starting materials
  • Partners with Kite External Supply and Partnership (ESP) team to drive performance of CMO's/CDMOs
  • Conducts market assessments related to Category and deploys Sourcing Events-e.g. RFI/RFP/RFX to determine supplier capabilities, risks, pricing to address Kite needs
  • Drives Total Cost of Ownership for Kite including inflation management and cost savings (developing savings pipeline and managing portfolio savings projects)
  • Develops contract strategy, negotiates supply agreements, and facilitates negotiation of other agreements as needed (e.g. CDA's, Quality Agreements, etc.)
  • Leads Supplier Relationship Management / Supplier Engagement at a strategic level in collaboration with cross-functional partners
  • Supports corporate initiatives such as Sustainability and Diversity & Inclusion


    Basic Qualifications:

    PhD with 2+ years of Strategic Sourcing and/or Procurement and/or Supply Chain and/or Operations experience

    AND

    MS / MA Degree with 8+ years of Strategic Sourcing and/or Procurement and/or Supply Chain and/or Operations experience

    OR

    BS / BA Degree with 10+ years of Strategic Sourcing and/or Procurement and/or Supply Chain and/or Operations experience

    OR

    High School Degree with 14+ years of Strategic Sourcing and/or Procurement and/or Supply Chain and/or Operations experience

    Preferred Qualifications:
    • 7+ years of strategic sourcing experience, preferably working with technical groups such as R&D and Process Development
    • 4+ years of Pharmaceutical / Biotech experience or equivalent regulated GMP environment
    • 12+ years of total business experience
    • Advanced Degree in Science, Engineering, Supply Chain and/or Business
    • Demonstrated experience in formal category management methodology with a track record of deploying multi-year category strategies
    • Solid procurement acumen to include negotiation strategy, contract management, financial analysis, market analysis, supplier diversity, supplier management
    • Previous experience managing relationships (strategic sourcing or external manufacturing) with CMOs /CDMOs
    • Ability to provide thought leadership and actively shape strategy while establishing credibility and influencing different management levels
    • Strong and effective communication and presentation skills
    • Previous experience in Cell & Gene Therapy is a plus
    • Strategic planning and integrated supply chain experience
    • Purchasing Certifications (e.g. CPM, CPSM), Supply Chain Certifications (CSCP, CPIM)
    • Project management and continuous improvement skills (e.g. FPX, Lean, Six Sigma, PMP)
    • Experience leading cross-functional project teams with the ability to develop business cases and champion complex initiatives driving cost, compliance, etc.
    • Demonstrated experience in managing Total Cost of Ownership and track record of driving Cost Savings
    • Demonstrated experience in following a formal sourcing process to include Market Assessment, Supplier Selection, Contract Management, SRM etc.
    • Ability to conduct market intelligence and benchmarking to address cost, quality, risk and innovation considerations

      Colorado Job Applicants: The salary range for this position is:
      $143,600.00 - $215,400.00
      Kite considers a range of factors, including background and experience, when determining base compensation. These considerations means actual compensation will vary.
