Job Description

Kite is seeking a highly motivated individual to work on enabling innovative allogeneic cell therapy treatments for cancer. As a Sr Research Associate in the Allogeneic Process Design team, the individual will work independently as well as collaboratively within a high-performing team to develop processes for manufacturing of cell therapy products. This position will support end-to-end process development efforts, tech transfer to clinical manufacturing, drafting protocols and technical reports for Kite's engineered allogeneic cell therapy products, as well as the evaluation of new technologies and equipment to enable robust scale-up, automation and commercialization.


  • Develop and optimize aspects of allogeneic cell therapy production platforms including cell isolation, enrichment, activation, gene editing using viral and non-viral vectors, expansion, harvest, formulation and cryopreservation.
  • Work with novel cell therapy modalities and contribute to evaluation and development of new process technologies.
  • Participate in experimental design, data analysis and lab planning activities.
  • Perform hands-on lab work to execute studies across multiple unit operations.
  • Maintain good experimental documentation practices
  • Manage samples and inventory related to each experiment.
  • Write and review technical and summary reports.
  • Transfer the process to clinical manufacturing, provide technical support and help troubleshoot any issues during manufacturing.


    • MS degree with 0+ years of experience in Biotechnology, Chemical / Biomedical Engineering, Biochemistry or Biology.
    • BS degree with 2+ years of experience in Biotechnology, Chemical / Biomedical Engineering, Biochemistry or Biology
    • AS degree with 4+ years of experience in Biotechnology, Chemical / Biomedical Engineering, Biochemistry or Biology
    • High School Diploma with 5+ years of experience in Biotechnology, Chemical / Biomedical Engineering, Biochemistry or Biology

      Additional Qualifications & Skills

      • Previous experience in biologics process development
      • Cell culture or cell therapy experience in an industrial or academic setting
      • Basic understanding of cell biology or immunology
      • Ability to work and collaborate on cross functional teams, in a fast paced, dynamic team setting.
      • Ability to think critically and have demonstrated problem-solving skills.
      • Excellent interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills.
      • Fluent with Microsoft office applications, statistical analysis tools (JMP/ Minitab) and data analysis / management tools.
      • The ability to accommodate occasional weekend and evening work.
      • The individual should demonstrate strong technical knowledge, initiative, scientific integrity, troubleshooting skills, and enthusiasm for learning.
      • Expertise with following techniques is preferred:
        • Cell therapy product generation, such as chimeric antigen receptor (CAR) T-cells; and/or
        • Genome editing technologies (e.g. CRISPR, ZFN), and viral transduction (e.g. RVV, LVV); and/or
        • Bioreactors and perfusion process development; and/or
        • Formulation / cryopreservation development.
