Job Description

Kite, a Gilead Company, is a biopharmaceutical company focused on the development and commercialization of novel cancer immunotherapy products designed to harness the power of a patient's own immune system to selectively target and kill cancer cells.

Our core technology involves the genetic engineering of T cells, or white blood cells, to express either chimeric antigen receptors (CARs) or T cell receptors (TCRs) for the treatment of advanced solid and hematological malignancies. Kite Technical Operations is seeking a highly motivated project manager with e xperience in the field, to support the development and management of our technical partnerships and technology portfolio. The Technical Partnerships and Portfolio Manager will enable the coordination and evaluation of range of strategic technologies and programs through technical partnerships with external organizations. This individual will play a key role in advancing future technologies so Kite can maintain its leadership in cell therapy and with its mission to cure cancer.

Job Responsibilities

  • Provide PM support to the TPPM team, their Tech Ops partnership management and the related governance processes and workflows.
  • Utilize Project Management Methodology in alignment with internal PM processes to develop high-level and detailed schedules to enable effective collaboration with external and internal stakeholders.
  • Manage Lessons Learned workflow for tech transfer processes to drive continuous improvement.
  • Partner with Tech Ops and other key receiving site stakeholders develop and improve existing business processes.
  • Support authoring of project plans, schedules, communication materials and relevant project documentation
  • Accountable for supporting the Strategic Technology Integration Business Process (STIP), working closely with the STIP Business Process Owner, to ensure cross-functional administration and alignment of tools and processes
  • Oversight of the Kite Technology Database and Tech Ops technology portfolio: management of associated content, user access, and configuration of the system; management of third-party interfacing and internal triage to ensure effective and accurate assessment of submitted technologies.
  • Coordination and facilitation of Tech Ops Technology innovation via the Technology Council cross functional governance meetings
  • Support SMEs in technology scouting to address strategic technology requirements and in STIP execution
  • Establish strong working relationships across departments, with key stakeholders and senior management to facilitate effective communication and transparency.
  • Foster a team culture of accountability by setting agendas, directing collaborative and efficient discussions and establishing agreement on a clear path to success.
  • Contribute towards sustainability of project management processes, tools and systems.

    Essential Duties and Job Functions:

    Specific responsibilities include but will not be limited to the following:
    • Develop and maintain project scope and timelines for the integration of partnerships and processes into Tech Ops
    • Work with cross-functional teams, track project status, perform risk identification and mitigation, and ensure timely and effective escalations per established process when key decisions or input is needed from senior leadership.
    • Support the Execution of the Strategic Technology Integration Process
    • Serve as subject matter expert for the process and resources available through STIP, and assist in the use of the associated tools
    • Facilitate functional and cross-functional workshops to collaborate with teams as they progress through the process
    • Monitor projects and generate status reports, working with functional and cross-functional teams to ensure accuracy and on-time execution of the STIP phases
    • Coordinate and align with project leaders and functional coordinators to assess need for Tech Innovation support
    • Provide oversight and management of the Kite Technology Database
    • Serve as point of contact and manage day to day activities with partner that hosts the database (Inova) to ensure system meets Kite's needs
    • Enable and support the utilization of the database by users, ensuring that accurate information on technologies and companies is included, external submissions are triaged and that dashboards and project updates are captured
    • Coordinate and facilitate Technology Council Governance

      Basic Requirements:
      • Bachelor's degree in Biology, Chemistry or related field and 8+ years of relevant experience or
      • Master's degree and 6+ years of relevant experience

        Preferred Requirements:
        • Background in Operations or Process Development
        • Relevant experience managing technical cross-functional activities in a scientific setting.
        • Able to think critically and demonstrate troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
        • Excellent written, analytical, and oral communication skills
        • Strong interpersonal skills with ability to work effectively across matrixed teams
        • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Outlook, Word, PowerPoint, etc.) and Microsoft Project and/or Smartsheet
        • High emotional intelligence, with demonstrated ability to successfully negotiate through challenging situations, difficult conversations, and ambiguous assignments.
        • Skillful at building trust and team cohesion, with demonstrated track record of driving and leading teams, and influencing colleagues at all levels of the organization.
        • Comfortable in a fast-paced environment with minimal direction and able to adjust workload based upon changing priorities.
