ResponsibilitiesThe Clinical Nurse Educator (CNE), Perinatal, is a registered nurse whose practice is clinical nursing education and who oversees required education, competency, training, and professional development for the Perinatal area-specific nursing staff in the UCLA Health system. Encompasses the delivery of clinician (primarily nursing), professional/leadership development, policies, activities, assessment tools, and systems. Promotes excellence in patient care, through skill acquisition in evidence based nursing practice and clinical inquiry. Collaborates with nursing leadership (Unit Director, Clinical Nurse Specialist, and Nursing Professional Development Specialists) to deliver educational programs and secure resources based on needs assessments and adult learning theory. Meets the diverse requirements of the nursing units, patient populations, regulatory and accreditation and strategic goals of the organization/health system.
Generic Scope: Technical leader with a high degree of knowledge in the overall field and recognized expertise in specific areas; problem-solving frequently requires analysis of unique issues/problems without precedent and/or structure. May manage programs that include formulating strategies and administering policies, procedures, processes, and resources. Functions with a high degree of autonomy.
Custom Scope: Applies extensive knowledge of clinical education and training practices to develop and deliver education and training content for all levels of clinicians, primarily nurses, at the medical center. Mentors nurse educators and functions as a leader and information resource. Holds in-depth specialty knowledge within a nursing discipline. Leads or overseas the implementation of new programs.
Environment: will be healthcare - hospital, clinical, classroom settings or similar environment as the role requires.Qualifications1. Possess a Certification within the Maternal Child Health field (ex. RNC-MNN, RNC-OB, IBCLC, C-EFM)-Required2. Graduate of an accredited school of nursing; MSN in Nursing Education-required3. Current active California License-required4. 5 years of recent Perinatal experience; including 3 years of High-Risk Labor and Delivery experience-required5. Advanced knowledge of developing and delivering clinical nursing education and training material for orientation, class training and skills/competency learning and leadership development
6. Advanced interpersonal skills to participate in the development and delivery of new education and training programs and to develop positive working relationships with nursing staff and leadership
7. Advanced organizational and project management skill to lead a team, prioritize tasks, and see projects through from inception to completion on schedule
10. Advanced skills in written and verbal communication to convey the most complex clinical, technical, and education and training information in a clear and concise manner to produce high quality reports, documentation, and presentations
11. Advanced knowledge of a broad spectrum of professional nursing practices and issues and in-depth knowledge in a clinical nursing specialty area
12. Advanced knowledge of methodology for conducting evidence-based research, data collection, analysis, and reporting
13. Advanced critical thinking and problem-solving skills to manage multiple levels of information and responsibilities
14. Advanced critical thinking and problem-solving skills to quickly assess highly-complex and urgent problems to develop and expedient path of resolution
