Providence is calling a House & Nursing Supervisor to PACT for a Per Diem/Day Shift to Saint John's Health Center in Santa Monica, CAApply Today!Applicants that meet qualifications will receive an email with some additional questions from our Modern Hire systemPlease upload a current resume reflecting all relevant experience.We are seeking a House and Nursing Supervisor - who will support the mission and vision of Saint John's Health Center and represents Administration in off-hours. (1530h - 0700h, Monday through Friday & 24 hours Saturday & Sunday) This is achieved by demonstrating the capacity to manage daily patient triage, patient assessments, patient placement, staffing assignments, and staff supervision. These activities include, but are not limited to the following:

  • Stewardship through fiscal responsibility, which is achieved by proper patient placement and resource management of staff and material.
    • Leadership: Resource for staff, physicians, patients and families, and representing Administration during off-hours.
      • Staff development through evaluating, mentoring, motivating, coaching, and supervision of in-house Registry staff.
        • Risk management.
          • Liaison, interacting with physicians, staff, manager, and families.In this position you will:
            • Perform assessment/data collection
            • Collect assessment data relevant to proper patient placement
            • Assess functioning of designated areas under supervision
            • Perform on going assessment of patients and acuity levels
            • Assess staffing needs
            • Demonstrate applied knowledge when placing selected patient populations on designated patient care units:
            • Age specific considerations in placement and staffing
            • Cardiac monitoring capabilities
            • Staffing efficiencies
            • Specialty or isolation rooms, e.g., negative airflow, radiation
            • Implement strategies that contribute to and support the organization's direction
            • Project staffing needs in relation to acuity of patient/skill mix
            • Collaborate with Team Leader during shift report
            • Oversee insurance screening and proper placement of patients
            • Act as a liaison between staff, physicians, family, and other departments
            • Work closely with families, visitors, patients, staff, and physicians on a daily basis
            • Communicate appropriately with staff, in a manner that is supportive of Administration and is direct, open, and honest in all communication. Keeps Administration (VPs, ADs, CEO) informed of staff concerns as they hear them
            • Proactively identify potential and actual variances requiring Risk Management / Security / Vice President / Administrator on Call notification as well as Administrative Director
            • Identify Risk Management or other issues, notifying appropriate personnel and ensuring appropriate follow through. "Appropriate personnel" could include the manager, Administrative Director, VP, Risk Manager, Security, or Administrator on Call
            • Ensure confidentiality with regards to Health Center business and patients
            • Respond to request for hospital grand master key.
            • Respond to request for Medical records confidential chart files
            • Demonstrate clinical proficiency and functions as a hospital resource
            • Manage surgery on call team booking requests and pages staff
            • Respond to physician requests for on call GI Lab, Cardiac Cath Lab, and other on call services
            • Act as a resource for all simple and complex equipment, and is able to identify resources for additional information
            • Direct the activities of others during emergency situations
            • Manage non-physician roles during Code Blue situations
            • Document on CPR record and reviews medical record of all codes and potential risk management situations to ensure documentation is complete and appropriate prior to the staff leaving their shift
            • May provide direct patient care if needed
            • Implement duties based on department and hospital standards
            • Follow established protocols and procedures
            • Ensure departmental compliance with established practice standards
            • Promote excellence through monitoring and supervision of staff
            • Perform staff assessment and evaluation. Identifies areas consistent with expected standards
            • Initiate appropriate corrective measures and ensures suitable follow up and communication
            • Supervise assigned in-house registry staff
            • Follow up with external registry and Do Not Sends
            • Demonstrate competency in selected skills including but not limited to:
            • Coordinating/evaluating admission/bed control to all areas
            • Oversight of admission screening including insurance and infection control issues
            • Coordinating appropriate staffing of patient care areas taking into account patient needs, acuity, and staffing skills and efficiencies
            • Performing patient triage
            • Performing physical assessment, IV therapy, and GI/GU insertions
            • Administering PO, IM, SQ, and topical medications
            • Measuring VS and I&O
            • Using equipment such as IV infusion pumps, glucometer, restraints, and computer
            • Able to do discharge planning/case management:
            • Evaluating patient needs
            • Providing DME (durable medical equipment, home health follow up as ordered
            • Nursing Pronouncement of death
            • Overseeing preparation of death papers in collaboration with staffing coordinator and unit principals
            • Demonstrates responsibility and accountability for own professional practice and team performance in regard to:
            • Positive public relations image and working relationships including appropriate communication
            • Acquisition of knowledge and skill needed to maintain competence
            • Completion of all mandatory requirements, including annual safety films, infection control, physical exams, BLS, and ACLS
            • Act as a mentor to staff
            • Keep current with nursing practice and health care issues
            • Participate in the development and attainment of team, department, and Health Center goals including:
            • Attending and participating in PACT team meetings and others as required
            • Utilizing e-mail, memos, formal and informal meetings to disseminate information
            • Volunteering or accepting assignments for projects
            • Complying with mission, vision, and team ground rules
            • Comply with Health Center, department, and unit standards, including but not limited to: Safety, CPR, infection control, quality management, environmental, confidentiality, and patient care
            • Delegate to appropriate team members
            • Demonstrate documentation on records and unit forms and develop appropriate tools when needed
            • Provide data for and provides 24 - administrative reportQualifications:Required qualifications for this position includes:
              • Sufficient for license
              • Current RN license in the State of California
              • Current Basic Life Support (BLS)
              • Current Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS)
              • Experience at staff position
              • Capable of dealing effectively with multiple demands and events
              • Ability to deal effectively with people
              • Ability to provide leadership, direction, and organization
              • Assure appropriate follow-through with legal, bio-ethical, risk management, and safety issues involving patient care delivery
