The Manager, Research will be on a hybrid/remote schedule but will be based in one of the following KARL STORZ hub office locations: El Segundo, CA, Stafford, TX or Auburn, MA. The Manager, Research plays a key-role in the Medical & Scientific Affairs Operations team. The Operations team within Medical & Scientific Affairs (MSA) enables research, evidence generation, innovation, and skills acquisition for Healthcare Providers (HCPs) by supporting the company's strategic initiatives in accordance with Regulatory and Compliance requirements.

This individual will manage KARL STORZ Research Program in support of Investigator Initiated Studies (IIS) and Investigator Sponsored Studies. Additionally, this position will be involved in the design, oversight, and execution real-world evidence (RWE) research programs to satisfy the data generation needs. This individual will support research goals, strategies, plans and objectives. Regularly reviews clinical metrics against objectives and takes actions to assess deviations from the plans, as/where necessary. Communicates with senior management on progress, issues, and potential solutions. This position reports directly to the Associate Director, Operations in our Medical & Scientific Affairs department.


  • Nearly 60-70% of time will be in managing our Clinical Research Program. This will require professional interaction with Clinical Leaders and Surgeons. This person must adhere to the requirements of our Company Policies and Clinical Research Committee, while maintaining Service Levels on communication.
    Strategic Management
    • Align with Corporate Strategy and Medical & Scientific Affairs Clinical team to successfully develop and execute strategic research and evidence generation plan.
    • Regularly interface with Surgeons, Medical Societies, Research Coordinators, and more at multiple research locations and facilitate discussions of alignment.
    • Contract Management
    • Oversee contracting and processing of agreements.
    • Liaison between internal & external stakeholders to execute contracts in a timely manner.
      Asset Management
      • Oversee the process of care and maintenance of KARL STORZ products at research sites.
      • Insure there is appropriate inventory to minimize equipment on-hand and manage costs.
      • Analytics & Insights
      • Define evolving study reporting through acquisition, transformation, & analytics.
      • The remainder of time will be spent managing KARL STORZ Global Innovation Program with various internal and external stakeholders. These activities could involve loan or grant support to Healthcare Organizations or Industry Partners, while working with our internal team members development teams.
        Relationship Management
        • Regularly interface with Principal Investigators, Research Coordinators, Logistics, Regulatory, and research teams at multiple Healthcare Organizations.
        • Support all request inquiries and work with team to ensure all required information is submitted
        • Contract Management
        • Oversee contracting and processing of agreements.
        • Liaison between internal & external stakeholders to execute contracts in a timely manner.
          Essential Elements
          • Reports directly to the Associate Director, Operations
          • This person must adhere to the requirements of Federal & State Regulations, KARL STORZ Policies and Processes, while maintaining Service Levels on communication.
          • This person must possess sufficient procedural and product knowledge to support both clinical and operational conversations.
          • Ability to work independently and make effective decisions while taking general direction from the managing team.
          • Demonstrates strong commitment to servicing investigators and collaborating in teams.
          • Travel requirement will be 20-30% to teaching hospitals, medical schools, and/or to major medical society's annual meetings.
          • Congenial, engaging conversationalist, critical thinking ability, high energy.
          • Professional writing, presentation, and communication skills.

          • Possess exceptional organizational skills and the ability to multi-task.

            • This will require a dynamic person who possesses passion for advancing clinical care when interacting with Health Care Providers, Scientists, Research Coordinators, and KARL STORZ colleagues.
            • A minimum education level of a bachelor's degree in a related field is required
            • 6 to 10 years of biomedical engineering, healthcare, surgical education, or clinical research experience
            • Experience in Good Clinical Practice (GCP) and regulatory compliance guidelines for clinical trials
            • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
            • Strong listening skills and customer orientation for problem solving
            • Possess excellent multi-tasking, organizational, analytical, and time management skills
            • Must be able to prioritize workload effectively, process work with minimal errors, and meet established deadlines
            • Must be able to interact with multiple people on all levels and work on projects with frequent interruptions
            • Proficient in Microsoft Office Applications required
            • Experience with Tableau, PowerBI, or other data visualization software is ideal.
