About The Role
Roku is in growth mode and we are investing in building out a
world-class People organization. As part of that effort, we are
looking to hire a Director, People Business Partner to serve as a
key strategic people advisor for Roku's Corporate teams, including
Legal, Finance, People, and Corporate/Government Affairs and
Communications. You will partner with senior management while
providing direct support to front line managers and employees
seeking guidance on a diverse range of topics. You will deliver a
full spectrum of HR deliverables that align with the businesses'
strategic goals. The Director, PBP will be viewed as a leader and
expert in all functional areas of Human Resources with an emphasis
on performance management, employee relations, change management
and organizational development. This role reports to the VP, People
- Corporate and Employee Relations.
What You'll Be Doing
- Partner with leaders across the People team to align HR
deliverables with business strategy
- Bring best practice and external perspectives to strategic and
operational business discussions and people management
decision-making
- Organize the delivery and implementation of core HR programs
and processes
- Coach leaders on people-related matters
- Support the resolution of complex people and employee relations
issues
- Provide guidance and support on the people strategy across the
Corporate teams in collaboration with colleagues across the People
team
Leadership & Management Development
- Support leaders in building a strong leadership pipeline across
Roku
- Provide proactive and strategic guidance and support for
organizational planning and development initiatives that align the
human resources agenda in support of key business strategies and
initiatives in client groups
- Influence leaders to take more accountability for talent and
leadership development and to model desired behaviors
Organizational Effectiveness & Enforcement of Roku Culture
- Partner with leaders in creating a culture and work environment
that supports the business strategy, encourages employee engagement
and inspires performance excellence
- Diagnose opportunities to improve the performance of the
organization utilizing tools to measure organization effectiveness
(e.g., 360 feedback, surveys, employee metrics), as well as
informal awareness of the pulse of the organization
- Consult with various business leaders on enabling team
effectiveness
- Ensure actions taken in the organization are aligned to Roku
culture
- Utilize data and predictive analytics to identify
organizational effectiveness opportunities and to measure the
impact of efforts
Performance & Rewards
- Educate, influence, and advocate Roku's performance philosophy
and practices within the business to ensure fairness and
consistency and inspire stronger employee and organizational
performance
- Advise leaders in dealing with employee relations issues, in
partnership with the Employee Relations team
- Partner with management teams to understand trends in employee
performance issues and advise on appropriate remediation
Strategic Workforce Planning
- Work in close partnership with the VP, People - Corporate and
Employee Relations and the Talent Acquisition team to ensure
overall alignment and execution of the workforce plan
- Create a talent roadmap which enables the organization to
achieve its strategy
- Consult with leaders on organization design and role
clarification that will enable realization of the business
strategy
- Translate workforce needs into short- and long-term development
plans; work within the People team and the business to ensure
execution against the plans and achievement of desired
outcomes
- Plan for potential workforce scenarios based on the business'
long-range plans
Change Management
- Provide change management strategy aimed at supporting the
organization, customizing the strategy as appropriate to meet
business needs
- Advise leaders on guiding their teams through organizational
change
- Maintain an awareness of changes in business teams internally
(within organization) and externally (within
industry/discipline)
- Deliver short-term solutions while also solving for long-term
problems by addressing immediate challenges and underlying
causes
We're Excited If You Have
- Minimum of 10 years relevant HR Business Partner experience,
ideally including supporting Corporate teams in media or high-tech
environments
- Exceptional client relationship management skills and
demonstrated experience in developing consultative relationships
with top executive leaders, including the ability to influence
decisionmakers to think strategically and critically
- Ability to function well in ambiguous situations and
unstructured environments, recognizing when it is appropriate to
introduce more structure and process without derailing the current
output
- Strong ethics and integrity, including the ability to maintain
the highest degree of confidentiality and handle sensitive
information and materials
- Significant experience analyzing data to influence business
decisions
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Coaching, influencing, problem solving, and facilitation skills
are critical
- Demonstrated success in developing innovative solutions to
solve business issues
- Experience in growing global business and positive reputation
for working effectively across levels of an organization
- This role will be based in San Jose or Santa Monica, with a
need to travel domestically, primarily between these locations.
Occasional international travel as needed.
